Turkmenistan Declares Hydrocarbon Reserves

Ashgabat, 14 November 2005 (nCa) --- I Nuriyev, head of Turkmengeologiya, described the hydrocarbon reserves during a recently oil and gas conference in Ashgabat.

Here are relevant excerpts from his presentation:

Resource Potential and Particular Features of Turkmenistan’s Geology
Presentation by State Minister, Chairman of State Concern TurkmenGeologiya, I Nuriyev

In Turkmenistan, practically all the land and the Turkmen sector of Caspian are considered as prospective resources of oil and gas. Subsoil prospects have been evaluated to the depth of seven kilometers and the main oil and gas deposits are concentrated in Carbon and Upper Jurassic in the east and Neogene in the west of the country. In the future exploration and development will more and more in the deeper Miocene and Mesozoic deposits in the west, Lower and Mid Jurassic and deep deposits through Carbon inclusive in the east of the country.

Turkmenistan’s Hydrocarbon Reserves and Resources

1. Initial total resources

In-place resources – 45.44 billion tons of oil-equivalent
Recoverable resources – 30.60 billion tons of oil-equivalent

2. As of January 2005, 2,488,466,000 tons of oil-equivalent have been produced from the subsoil of Turkmenistan.

3. Current reserves as of January 2005:

In-place resources – 42.32 billion tons of oil-equivalent
Recoverable resources – 27.48 billion tons of oil-equivalent

4. Reserves and resources of free and dissolved gas

Turkmenistan has 149 discovered gas and gas-condensate fields with total reserves of 4,970,768 million cubic meters including 139 onshore fields with 4,573,361 million cubic meters and 10 offshore fields with 397,407 million cubic meters.

Currently 54 fields with reserves of 2,620,838 million cubic meters are being developed, 11 fields with reserves of 256,571 million cubic meters have been prepared for development; 73 fields with reserves of 1,958,254 million cubic meters are being explored and 11 fields with reserves of 135,079 million cubic meters are in a mothballed state.

Cumulative gas production in Turkmenistan, as of 1 January 2005, amounted to 2,032,438,000,000 cubic meters.

Current gas reserve of Turkmenistan is 22,546,352 billion cubic meters of in-place reserves and 20,415,892 billion cubic meters of recoverable reserves.

5. Oil and Condensate reserves and resources

Turkmenistan has 34 discovered oil fields and 82 gas-condensate fields, of which 20 oil fields and 38 gas-condensate fields are in development.

Four gas-condensate fields have beenprepared for commercial development and 14 oil and 39 gas-condensate fields are undergoing exploration.

Cumulative liquid hydrocarbon productin Turkmenistan amounted to 456,028 million tons.
